Two number one records of 1986 were later returned to the top spot as charity records for comic relief. Boyzone did when the going gets tough and Gareth Gates covered the cover version of spirit in the sky, originally a number 1 for one hit wonder Norman Greenbaum in 1970.

Sir Cliff recycled his 1959 classic number 1 living doll with the young ones as backing singers. The 1985 version of living doll was a comedy charity version. Unfortunately comedy records are only funny once, the second time you hear the song you know the joke, and after a few more listens it becomes boring, in fact very boring indeed. However you cant knock the King of UK rock'n'roll and the young ones TV show was brilliant, so this tune escapes our pop flops of the 80s list, unlike the Chicken song. However the Chicken song is a decent parody of naff records so it almost manages to escape the naughty list, but only almost. We could also be wrong but we think Reet Petite held the record as the record taking the longest to get to number one from when it was first released in 1957. This record is now held by Tony Christie with Amarillo

In the mid nineties we turned up at a golf club venue to play for a Wedding and there was a chap out side in a red shirt. We asked him where the best entrance was to get the gear in and he pointed us in the right direction. The Wedding guest where already present so once inside we wanted to set up as quickly as possible. We wanted to know where to set up and where the nearest plugs were etc and looking over at the bar the staff all wore similar red shirts. Just then the chap who pointed us in the right direction walked passed and we bombarded him with questions. He said didn't know any of the answers but added he didn't work there. It was a while later that we realised the reason he looked like one of the bar staff was because he had played barmen at the Queen Vic on eastenders for years and it was Nick Berry who had a smash hit number one in 1986 with every loser wins.
